Perry is the child of Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry (actor). Her first roles on television included two roles on the show as Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) in her role on the ABC sitcom Roseanne, the character portrayed by her mother. The actress did not go on to consider a career in acting until after she had reached adulthood, as her parents were afraid of the negative effects that stress could have. Perry claimed she felt nervous to be an actor at the age of 16, but she began performing in the theater at Northwestern University as a way to connect with people following her transfer to the university from Boston University. Perry went on to New York, where she was offered small roles in shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Homesickness then led Perry home to California and theater roles were in demand. The Other Place was performed by her mother and her in 2013 on Broadway in 2013. In the year 2015, she was with Kevin McKidd alongside her mother in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prizewinning drama Anna Christie. The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble is located in West Los Angeles. In 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes on ABC's drama The Family. In 2017, she starred in a recurring role on the ABC drama about politics Scandal which starred her father. That same year the actress was selected to play the younger model of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again playing a young character of her mom's. The character was chosen via auditions the fact that she had a deep relationship with the show.
